Hip Dysplasia
Dog hip dysplasia is a painful, genetic condition that
causes a dog's hips to weaken over time, with the end result
often being a diagnosis of arthritis. Dogs as young as seven
weeks old can exhibit signs of hip dysplasia, while other
dogs seem to develop this condition much later in life.
Furthermore, it seems that larger dogs suffer from hip
dysplasia much more commonly than their smaller
counterparts. Although hip dysplasia is usually inherited
from one or both parents, it can occur in dogs whose parents
do not suffer from this condition. You can look for
certain signs and symptoms in your dog that may clue you
in as to whether he is in pain and suffering from hip
dysplasia. If your dog has difficulty getting up from a
prone position or cannot climb stairs without much
effort, you may want to take him in for some x-rays. Any
whining or change in behavior should also be noted, and
if your dog suddenly becomes sensitive to your touch,
something could be amiss. Furthermore, if your dog
demonstrates a reluctance to walk, jump, or run, his
hips could be causing him pain. If your dog is
diagnosed with hip dysplasia, you and your vet can
discuss treatment options that may help. Many vets
discourage the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs or painkillers because they do not treat the
underlying problem, and in many cases they cause severe
side effects such as liver and kidney failure to
gastrointestinal bleeding. In addition, research has
shown that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can
speed up the rate at which cartilage is broken down,
counteracting any beneficial effects. Is There
an Answer for Hip Dysplasia? Many vets
recommend natural dog food that contains glucosamine and
chondroitin, both of which can help repair damaged
cartilage and add lubrication between the joints.
Fortunately, Flint River Ranch Senior Plus dog food

dog nutritional food that also helps repair degenerative
joints and cartilage. We also sell Jubilee Wafers that
